Gail Sauter tells stories that might be. A colorist and a “choreographer of nuances,” she weaves together memories, observation, invention and suggestion with thin, transparent washes, opaque strokes of thick paint and vibrating fields of color to present the immediacy of the moment and to bring it to life. The artist has lived for extended periods in Italy, England and Japan, with the latest move to Asheville, North Carolina, from coastal Maine. Her university training was in non-objective abstract art, but after graduation, living in Naples, Italy, she felt the need to incorporate representational elements into her work. She works in watercolor, pastels, and oils, achieving Master Status in the Pastel Society of America (P.S.A.). Gail has exhibited internationally in solo shows and invitationals in England, France and Russia, and throughout the United States.
