Gary Bowling is one of the most accomplished landscape painters in America today. He is a Missouri native and shows with galleries in Santa Fe, Chicago and Kansas City. Among his scores of collectors are AT&T, Bank of America, Deloitte and Touche, Fuji Bank, Saint Luke’s Health System, the Mayo Clinic, Hallmark Cards, Hewlett Packard, United Airlines, 3M, the Mayo Clinic, UMB, the US State Dept, and private collectors worldwide. Museums include the University of Iowa Stanley Art Museum, the Brunnier Art Museum at Iowa State, and the Daum Museum in Sedalia, MO. Gary won a fellowship to the Yaddo Institute in New York in 1981. This placed him among other Yaddo alumni such as Truman Capote, Leonard Bernstein, Jacob Lawrence, Elia Kazan and Alfred Kazin. Very few artists are accepted into Yaddo, which is renowned for recognizing young talent and helping to foster it. Though collected internationally, Gary tends to focus on painting scenes in Missouri and Kansas, while also interpreting regions of New Mexico and France. But it is his scenes of the Midwest that have brought him the most acclaim, just as Monet’s scenes of rural France did the same for him in the 19th Century. Gary works primarily in oils and spends a great deal of time on each canvas. In fact some works can take several months to complete. He is considered a master of his medium, and after several decades of hard work he has indeed entered the golden period of his career.
