Gaston Toussaint was born Rocquencourt, 7 September 1872. A student and later collaborator of the sculptor Antoine Bourdelle, Toussaint exhibited at the National Society of the Fine Arts and at the Tuileries. He was made a Chevalier and later an officer of the Legion of Honor. He is known for his war memorials in several French cities, including Carmaux, Castres, Lavaur, and Mazamet.
