Greg Beecham offers the viewers of his paintings a personal relationship with animals in their habitat. “I am increasingly involved with the development of interesting compositions complimented by dynamic color harmonies, light, and value. I see my work as ‘accessible abstractions’ more than photo realism – though, ultimately, the latter is perhaps the more accurate term for my art.” As the son of artist Tom Beecham, Greg grew up hunting, fishing, observing nature; always cognizant of a yearning to follow in his dad’s footsteps. He still remembers standing for hours on end with his dad, watching the gestures and movements of whitetail deer in the woods behind their home. It was during these formative years that the elder Beecham taught the younger how to draw. But it wasn’t until Greg completed a tour in the U.S. Navy and a couple of years of college that he realized his dream of studying full time under the tutelage of his dad. Now, with a twenty-five year career of painting behind him, Greg has established himself as an artist with a unique mission and style. “I paint abstract pattern within a pattern within a pattern,” explains Greg, “and the end result is a vibrant, life expressing realism.” A member of the Society of Animal Artists, he has won Best of Show, People's Choice, and Artists’ Choice at the C.M. Russell Auction in Great Falls Montana; People’s Choice, Best of Show, and Featured Artist at the Pacific Rim Wildlife Art Show in Seattle, Washington; Wildlife Art News Award at the Society of Animal Artists’ Art and the Animal Exhibition; Master Artist award at the Gallery One Miniature’s Show in Mentor, Ohio; and Best of Show, People’s Choice, and Poster Artist Award at the Western Art Association Show in Ellensburg, Washington. Greg’s work has been represented in the “Arts for the Parks” Top 100 Exhibition. He was a special guest artist for the Southeastern Wildlife exposition’s 1999 show in Charleston, South Carolina, and was Featured Artist at the 2000 Show. He has shown in the Western Visions Miniatures Show at the National Museum on Wildlife Art, Jackson, WY the past four years. In addition, he recently became a member of the Northwest Rendezvous Group and received their prestigious Award of Merit as well as a People’s Choice Award in 2004. Greg’s work has toured in the Museum of Natural History in Beijing, China, and is in the permanent collection of the Clymer Museum in Ellensburg, Washington and the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Museum, Wausau, Wisconsin. Magazines which had featured Greg’s work are; Arts of the West, U.S. Art, Sporting Classics, and Wildlife Art Magazine. His wok has been featured on the cover of the following magazines: Wildlife Art Magazine, Bugle, U.S. Art, Game Coin, and Safari Club. One of Greg’s most cherished honors, however, is the personalized book renowned artist, Bob Kuhn, sent him in which Bob wrote, “To Greg Beecham, one of the good young wildlife artists.” Greg’s work is featured in the acclaimed new hardcover book, Wildlife Art: 60 Contemporary Masters and Their Work by Joan Muyskens Pursley. As a Christian, Beecham honors the sanctity of life and the beauty of nature. While art is his calling, Beecham’s mission is to see son, Sam, and daughter, Sarah, growing into productive, caring citizens and to remain a loving and faithful husband to his wife of twenty-six years, Lu. He continually aspires to reflect God’s creating via the use of color and light. His motto is “Do all things as unto the Lord, and get so good you can’t be ignored.” Greg and his family live high in the Rockies in Dubois, Wyoming. There, Greg enjoys riding his horse, cowboying, hunting, and watching the wildlife with his family. He has also helped organize a group of local artists who paint plein air together on a regular basis. He is a member of the VFW and Tin Can Sailors.
