Born in 1950, art has always played an important role in Harry’s life. As a young boy Harry was encouraged by artistic parents, and his family made frequent visits to the acclaimed Nelson/Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City. Inspired by the great masters, he began a life long study and devotion to Art. Harry earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (BFA), from Missouri State University, in 1974. He received a classical art education, working with various media and techniques. The study of Art History was also important. After 4 years of college, Harry traveled throughout Europe for a year, visiting museums, studios, and workshops of local artist. Returning home to Kansas City, he attended the prestigious Kansas City Art Institute and continued his study of painting. Married, he and wife Jane raised three children. During this time Harry had a successful career in advertising. Then after 30 years he gave up the corporate world to pursue his passion — painting. He now paints nearly every day. Hutchinson credits the influences of Matisse and the Abstract Expressionists. He fuses figuration with abstraction. Exhibitions of Hutchinson’s work span 40 years and include many solo and group shows. His paintings are found in private, corporate, government and celebrity collections.
The Women Paintings Women today face a staggering assault of exploitation, abuse and injustice. It is prevalent in every corner of our society. Even our revered institutions and the popular culture are accomplices. The scope and complexity of the issues are unimaginable. Women are the preeminent subjects of Art. My paintings are dedicated to women’s rights and empowerment — a tribute to them all.
