MIXED MEDIA FLORIDA, USA Jose Margulis was born in Caracas, Venezuela, in 1970. He took photography classes at the Instituto Neumann (1987) and earned a B.A. in Management from the Universidad Metropolitana, Caracas (2003). After working in the family for a while, he decided to follow his passion for art. His exploration of digital printing in his workplace led him to progressively become interested in sculpture. Today, his artwork is the result of an intrinsic connection between digital work, photography, and sculpture. As most artists from his generation, he came of age with the rise of Geometric Abstraction. He was particularly influenced by Venezuelan kinetic master Jesús Soto and Russian constructivist Naum Gabo. Abstraction is a language that comes naturally to him. His colorful sculptures begin with computer designs. Once he assembles them they become models for his photographic pieces, creating a multi-level dialogue between the two-dimensional and the three-dimensional works. In his own words: “What I seek to provide is a moment for self reflection; a brief visual meditation that allows one to recharge. Geometric designs have no cultural barriers and speak to a shared humanity. I like to believe my work is a soothing response to the speed of our contemporary lives, a necessary pit stop to reclaim inner peace and perspective of our soul.” He has participated numerous exhibitions and international art fairs. His works belong to institutional, corporate and private collections from Australia, China, Costa Rica, Italy, Mexico, Peru, Spain, United Arab Emirates, Venezuela and the United States. He lives and works in Miami, Florida.
