Jason Craighead (b.1971) is an abstract artist based in Raleigh, North Carolina. In his mixed-media works, drawing, painting, and writing fuse seamlessly together His surprising compositions create a fragile balance between frantic pencil marks, large areas of color, and soft washes of white paired with deep blacks. The artist's varied materials and application bring tension and drama to the canvas with midnight blacks and glowing metallic swaths often contributing movement and depth. Craighead’s work is, at its core, an exploration of the vastness of the human condition, both personal and collective. Craighead’s dynamic paintings and works on paper embody the artist’s recent experiences, ongoing preoccupations, and at times brutally raw emotions. He comments, "Our modern lives are entangled in a complicated world that is in turn joyful, tragic, confusing, dark, wild, and brilliant." Craighead’s works have been exhibited globally, including a solo museum exhibition at the Contemporary Art Museum, Raleigh, NC. His work is in both private and public collections including the city of Raleigh, NC; Hunter Industries; and the Exploris Museum.
