Jeffie Brewer creates bold, vividly colored sculptures that marry refined craftsmanship with a sharp, disarming sense of humor. Using industrial materials and fabrication techniques, he builds playful, character-driven forms that nod to animals, symbols, and simplified silhouettes. Clean lines and saturated color give the work a crisp contemporary presence, while its wit and narrative charm resonate naturally within the western tradition of storytelling and object-making. Brewer holds an MFA in Sculpture and Metals, an MA in Sculpture and Painting, and a BFA in Drawing, Printmaking, and Jewelry. His technical fluency allows him to shift effortlessly between precision and spontaneity, structure and whimsy. Since his first exhibition in 1998, his work has appeared in solo and group exhibitions across North America, England, Mexico, and Japan. Raised in East Texas as the son of eccentric junkyard owners, Brewer developed an early eye for overlooked beauty and a hands-on command of tools and materials. Those formative experiences continue to shape his inventive approach. From 1998 to 2019, he taught sculpture, drawing, and design at the university level, influencing a generation of emerging artists. Beyond the studio, Brewer is founder and president of Orange Cat, Inc., a design and fabrication company, and has worked for decades as an illustrator and designer with Point A Media. In 2006, he designed and built his own home—an extension of the same curiosity and problem-solving that defines his practice. He lives and works with his wife, Angie, whom he credits with saving him from impending doom. His interests are eclectic and unmistakably his own: dogs, plants, the color teal, the letter “z,” fresh figs, a well-struck ten-foot putt, rust stains on concrete, small (occasionally violent) birds, the number seven, good stories, and lying in the sun. That blend of thoughtfulness and mischief animates everything he makes.
