Jim Keffer is a self-taught artist who began by making hand-carved and painted wood furniture before pursuing his career as a painter in 1998. The artist creates contemporary landscape primitivist paintings using acrylics, minimal compositions, and a memorable red ground undercoat that peeks through the layers of paint. Keffer’s color palettes remind us of the rich earth, the vibrant red limning his landscapes in the heat and life of the West. He describes it as painting places in the landscape and places of the heart. Keffer is represented by galleries in Guthrie, OK; Oklahoma City, OK; Taos, NM; and Santa Fe, NM. Keffer and his wife, Laurie, are currently constructing a second home and studio in Abiquiu, New Mexico and live in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
