Jim Sweeney is a ceramic and digital artist based in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Though his professional life has followed a more technical path, he’s always turned to art as a way to create, connect, and find calm. With a background in sketching, music, woodworking, 3D modeling, and game design, Jim brings a multidisciplinary perspective to his work—one that balances structure with spontaneity. His ceramic pieces reflect a minimalist and abstract aesthetic, often shaped by the rhythms of the ocean, the stories of Norse mythology, and the quiet meditative nature of handbuilding. Using techniques like raku firing, sgraffito, and carving, his work plays with contrast between texture and stillness, precision and imperfection. Influenced by his experiences living with ADHD and PTSD, Jim approaches each piece as an opportunity to slow down and be present. His hope is that this work invites others to do the same—offering a sense of joy, reflection, and connection in even the smallest ways.
