J.M. Brodrick’s paintings span a wide range of themes—from old-growth forests and coastal vistas to city scenes, birds, animals, and people. Her work is often described as serene and peaceful, yet imbued with moments of drama, tenderness, and quiet beauty. Through her layered use of color, Brodrick creates luminous harmonies that seem to glow from within, much like a composer blending notes into a symphony. Born into a family of artists, she began painting in her youth under the guidance of her grandmother, a professional artist from Helsinki, Finland, and earned her first scholarship at age thirteen. After years in Alaska, where the rugged landscape deepened her connection to nature, Brodrick settled in Oregon, where the light and atmosphere of the Pacific Northwest continue to inspire her art.
