The Frisian Johannes Eerdmans has developed a style that is strongly reminiscent of the Romantic School. He was born October 15, 1950, in Sneek and grew up in Bolsward. Eerdmans was interested in drawing small-size sailing ships from childhood. For some time, he received training at the Leeuwardian Academy of Art, the “Vredeman de Vries Stichting,” but soon discovered that working in groups and making abstract art was not where his passion lay. From that moment onward, Eerdmans drew and painted his own vision. His favorite subject is still life, but he also enjoys painting townscapes, ships, and both winter and summer landscapes. The longer Eerdman paints, the higher his esteem for the old Dutch masters becomes. Eerdmans’ work gives distinct evidence of his inspiration. Art connoisseurs praise the extraordinary atmosphere his paintings exude.
