John Geci is a master glassblower whose work captures the fluidity and vibrancy of molten glass in its most dynamic form. Based near the renowned Penland School of Crafts in Western North Carolina, Geci is known for creating elegant, minimalist glassware that enhances rather than dominates its surroundings. His pieces emphasize the material’s inherent transparency, and brilliance, often featuring bold yet understated colors and carefully placed marking that highlight the organic nature of glass. Originally from Litchfield, Connecticut, Geci discovered his passion for glass while studying philosophy at Hartwick College. After graduating in 1994, he pursued his craft at Penland, where he refined his skills as a student and studio assistant. In 2001, he became the first-ever glass artist-in-residence at the EnergyXchange, a groundbreaking small business incubator focused on sustainable practices. There, he launched J. Geci Glass, producing his signature line of sophisticated, handcrafted vessels that continue to captivate collectors and design enthusiasts alike.
