John Geci loves the elegant simplicity of a well blown vessel. A glassblower who found his calling in college, he soon traveled to Penland School of Craft in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains, where he immersed himself in the art. After studying and apprenticing with leading local artists who taught him an array of techniques and approaches, Geci then landed the first-ever glass residency at the EnergyXchange, an innovative small business incubator based on sustainability. For the past twenty years, the artist has produced his own distinctive designs of vibrant, crisp vessels known as J. Geci Glass. Geci’s studio sits atop a hill in Western North Carolina, where he is an active member of the local glass community. “With my work, I try to have each form serve as a canvas to display the inherent beauty...of the glass.” His pieces are in galleries and private collections across the country. Geci is the chairperson of the glass jury at the EnergyXchange and a member of the Toe River Arts Council. This past fall, Geci was among the awardees of the Smithsonian National Craft Show.
