Florida native John Stanford paints Southern landscapes with loose, Impressionist brushstrokes. Stanford most often focuses on coastal horizons but since his move to northern Georgia, he has also been painting the woodland areas around his home in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. The artist works en plein air, with photographs, and most often from memory. Stanford earned a BA from Florida State University in 1972. His work is in many private and corporate collections both national and international. Some notable collections are Museum of Arts and Science, Daytona Beach; the Percy/Geiger collection, Barnett Banks of Florida, Capital City Bank, Iberia Bank, The Florida Association of Realtors, South Trust Bank of Birmingham, Southern Bell Collection, Harrah's Hotel, and Canal Barge Company.
