Jonathan Prince is an American artist renowned for his large-scale sculptures in steel and granite. With studios in Brussels, Belgium, and a state-of-the-art studio in the Berkshires of Massachusetts, Prince creates works reflecting his wide-ranging interests in science, technology, and spirituality. His pieces, often monumental, represent a continuous exploration of material, form, and scale. Often characterized by sharp contrasts between oxidized CorTen steel and mirror-polished stainless steel, his works explore the tension between perfected geometries and chaotic breaks, reflecting the dualities inherent in life. Born in New York City, Prince’s artistic journey began at age 12 when he apprenticed with French-American cubist sculptor Jacques Lipchitz. This early experience of transforming matter into meaning has stayed with him throughout his diverse career. Prince began as a maxillofacial surgeon, then transitioned to film production and next as founder and chairman of a venture backed media technology company. Returning to sculpture in 2002, he established a world-class art fabrication facility at his Berkshires home and studio. Prince collaborates closely with his wife and business partner, Stephanie Manasseh, a renowned Canadian curator and art advisor. Together, they developed Berkshire House as a creative hub for community engagement, later expanding this concept to Maison Berkshire in Brussels. Stephanie plays a crucial role as Studio Director, working hand-in-hand with Jonathan to manage the studio and all of its activities. His work has been exhibited in multiple public spaces, including two shows at Christie’s Sculpture Garden, 590 Madison Avenue Sculpture Garden, Pier 64 Hudson River Park, and Dag Hammarskjold Plaza. Additionally, his work has been acquired for both private and public collections, including the Eli and Edith Broad Museum at MSU, the Joseph M. Cohen Family Collection, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and the Julie and Edward J. Minskoff Collection, his work is is part of the Nader Sculpture Park in Miami.
