José Pereyra Lucena (b. 1984, Buenos Aires, Argentina) is a contemporary photographer whose work blends fine art photography with poetic engagement with landscape and natural presence. A self-taught artist from an early age, Pereyra Lucena developed his craft through persistent experimentation, embracing both technical precision and contemplative observation in his work. His practice spans intimate studies and grand landscape imagery that evokes both monumentality and emotional resonance.Pereyra Lucena first garnered international attention in 2010 when he was recognized as a “photographer revelation” at BAphoto, Argentina’s leading international photography fair, following his early exhibition at Galería Palatina in Buenos Aires. Since then, his work has continued to be exhibited in notable gallery contexts, including solo presentations such as SERES* at Peuser Art Project and SERES* (2024) at Artemisa Gallery, where his large-format, immersive prints of northern Argentine landscapes were shown in New York. His SERES* series — monumental photographs of cardones (ancient cacti) and nocturnal northern landscapes — reflects his deep interest in the interplay between humanity and nature, light and shadow, presence and silence. Using fine art printing techniques, including metallic Hahnemühle paper and long exposure methods, Pereyra Lucena captures dramatic imagery in both color and black-and-white, balancing technical mastery with a contemplative, almost philosophical approach to time and place.Pereyra Lucena’s work has been included in art fairs and gallery exhibitions in both Argentina and the United States, and he maintains a practice that continues to evolve through landscape exploration and fine art photography. His images are held in private collections and appreciated for their striking scale, thoughtful composition, and emotional depth.
