Born in 1948 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Juan Bordes is an internationally recognized sculptor whose work explores the expressive and structural possibilities of the human figure. Across decades of practice, Bordes has developed a rigorous engagement with form, gesture, and fragmentation, often rendering the body as both monument and meditation. Working primarily in bronze and large-scale sculpture, Bordes investigates tension within the figure, capturing transitional states that suggest movement, resistance, and introspection. His works balance classical discipline with psychological intensity, inviting viewers to consider the body not as static form, but as a vessel of lived experience. Late in his career, Bordes continues to refine and question his own approach to sculpture. In dialogue with Carr’s photographic lens, his work in MONUMENT AND MEMORY becomes both subject and collaborator, demonstrating that artistic evolution persists across time.
