Born and raised in southern Russia, in a land bathed in light, warmth, and vivid color, Julia’s early visual experiences were deeply shaped by nature’s brilliance and emotional depth. These childhood impressions, infused with sunlight and the beauty of everyday life, laid the foundation for her artistic vision — one that continues to evolve through a lifelong dedication to observation, memory, and transformation. Julia works primarily in oil, a medium she reveres for its richness, history, and expressive potential. Her style blends classical techniques with a contemporary sensibility, using bold color and textured layers to capture both emotional nuance and visual rhythm. Her subject matter is diverse: luminous still-lifes, expressive portraits, evocative landscapes, and occasionally, introspective cityscapes. Whether figurative or abstract, her work is united by a singular focus — the desire to elevate the ordinary, to reveal the mystery in the familiar, and to create images that speak to the heart. After relocating to North America in 2003, Julia had been living in Canada for 15 years and then settled in Atlanta, Georgia, where she continues to live and work. Her transition across cultures profoundly enriched her perspective, allowing her to explore themes of memory, identity, and belonging through both representational and abstract forms. Her paintings are part of private and corporate collections throughout North America, with placements in boutique hotels in Charleston and Toronto, reflecting the wide appeal and versatility of her work. Julia Klimova is represented by Mary Martin Gallery of Fine Art in Charleston, South Carolina.
