Jurgen Gorg was born in 1951 in Dernbach, West Germany, and spent his formative years in nearby Koblenz. He went on to study visual arts at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, where under the mentorship of Saalfield, he developed an academic precision in drawing and a lyrical sense of movement that would define his style.Beginning his professional journey in 1977 as a painter and printmaker, Gorg received a special painting award from the district of Rheinland-Pfalz in 1980, acknowledging his artistic promise early in his career . By 1985, a catalog raisonné of his works had been published—a testament to his growing presence in the contemporary art world.Gorg's art frequently explores figurative and erotic traditions, focusing on slender, youthful figures—often dancers, lovers, or masked characters. Faces are left indistinct while body language drives expressive storytelling. In his own words, "The predominant subject is the human body… gestures are those of free motion… the erotic radiation of the figures." His etchings and lithographs feature fine, flowing line-work infused with soft, translucent layers of oil paint and subtle color highlights.Renowned for blending classical Renaissance-inspired drawing with modern abstraction, Gorg’s compositions evoke rhythm, fluidity, and emotional resonance—often compared to jazz improvisation in visual form. His use of monochromatic palettes and delicate contrast places emphasis on contour and motion. Through intimate, sensual subjects and poetic ambiguity, his works invite introspection on themes of love, illusion, and transformation.
