Jylian Gustlin creates mixed media paintings that explore the meeting point of art, science, and mathematics. Working primarily with acrylic on wood panel, and often incorporating ink, gouache, pencil, or resin, she builds layered compositions shaped by themes such as Fibonacci sequences and entropy. Her paintings move between abstraction and representation while remaining grounded in process, pattern, and formal invention.Gustlin’s work is both intellectually structured and intuitively made. Through adding and subtracting information, she allows each painting to emerge through effort, revision, and discovery. Her paintings, whether abstract or figurative, reveal a history of making that is integral to their power.
