Kazuhisa Honda (born 1948) was born in Japan and studied at the University of Osaka. He moved to Paris in 1974, where he studied printmaking with British artist and master printmaker Stanley W. Hayter. Honda was also deeply influenced by Japanese printmaker Yozo Hamaguchi, to whom he became apprenticed with developing expertise in mezzotint printmaking, one of the more demanding intaglio techniques that creates prints with soft gradations of tone and velvety texture. Honda continued to study and perfect a color mezzotint technique at the Pratt Graphics Center in New York City.
