Kate Newington is a highly regarded artist with a strong academic background, holding a BA from Camberwell School of Art and an MA from Central Saint Martins. A member of the Society of Women Artists (SWA), Kate has established a significant reputation in the UK art scene, exhibiting regularly at the Mall Galleries in London, the Chelsea Arts Society, and the Royal West of England Academy in Bristol. Kate’s artistic journey is deeply rooted in a fascination with structure and texture. Influenced early on by the dynamic Cubist still lifes of Juan Gris, she spent years mastering the art of collage, completing approximately forty portrait commissions in the medium. Her artistic evolution was further shaped by regular stays in St Ives, Cornwall. Here, she found inspiration in the works of the St Ives School—particularly Ben, Winifred, and Rachel Nicholson—and the contemporary West Country art scene. Today, Kate’s work represents a sophisticated fusion of these influences. While she has transitioned from mixed media to painting, her current still lifes retain a distinct "collage aesthetic." She expertly employs acrylics to create sharp edges, contrasting textures, and inclusions of random text, capturing the tactile energy of collage within the smooth surface of a painting.Kate has been awarded prizes for her exhibited work by both the SWA and the Bath Society of Artists.
