Kevin grew up in the Hudson Valley of New York. He always drew as a child from the time he could pick up a pencil. His passion was drawing cars which he was obsessed with. He thought he would one day be a car designer. HIs mother always encouraged him to do art. After he graduated from high school she insisted he spend his summer taking art classes at The Art Students League which had a chapter nearby in Woodstock NY. He had a teacher there, Bob Angeloch who insisted that Kevin go to Monhegan Island, A beautiful small island in Maine where many famous American artists had painted. He had seen Edward Hopper’s “House by the Railroad” on the cover of a book and having heard that Hopper had painted on Monhegan that sealed the deal. He was drawn to the subject matter that Hopper painted perhaps because they had both grown up in the Hudson Valley. He moved to New York and spent four years studying at The Art Students League there. He became a storyboard artist which led to his becoming an art director at a New York advertising agency. Although he did that as a full time job he made a point of drawing or painting every night after work. He spent summer vacations painting on Monhegan. In 1996 he decided he had to be on the island painting in the summer instead of sitting in an office so he quit his job and spent the summer on the island. He figured he would do it for a while and then have to go back to work but he started selling his work. And he has since spent his life painting. His work is in numerous collections and has been included in numerous exhibitions including the New Britain Museum of Art. He has been featured in American Artist Magazine, Art Collectors Magazine, and in a return to his childhood passion he loves to paint old abandoned vehicles some of which have appeared in articles in a number of car magazines. He has been included in a books about Maine art including “The Art of Monhegan Island,” “American Coastal Art”, and “Island Light- Monhegan Island.”He now lives in Rockland Maine, a beautiful coastal town with great subject matter and he still spends a great deal of time painting on Monhegan.
