Kristine Nason is a multidisciplinary artist based in southern England, recognised for her dynamic command of both traditional and contemporary forms. She holds full membership in two prestigious institutions: the Society of Women Artists (SWA) and the Society of Equestrian Artists (SEA). Her artistic foundations are deeply rooted in the equestrian world; she sold her first equine paintings at the age of 14. Nason initially trained as a graphic designer before establishing herself in fine art, a career path that included running a fine-art publishing company and collaborating with London galleries. For many years, she was best known as a successful watercolourist, attracting a loyal clientele for commissioned portraits, equestrian studies, and illustration. Her commitment to the craft also extended to education, where she led workshops and tutored for the Open University. A pivotal shift occurred in 2020. While studying advanced-level oil painting, Nason discovered a new creative voice that allowed her to expand beyond her established repertoire. She now navigates between two distinct bodies of work: her celebrated equestrian art and a series of semi-abstracted narrative pieces inspired by her deep personal connection to West Africa. Married to a Ghanaian husband and raising two children, Nason’s contemporary work documents the beauty, people, and rich cultural heritage of Ghana. Her latest series reflects observations of daily life around their home in coastal Accra. In these pieces, she moves into more complex thematic territory, exploring identity, belonging, and cultural memory, often addressing the lingering legacies of colonisation and environmental injustice. Whether capturing the movement of a horse or the vibrancy of coastal life in Accra, Nason brings emotional resonance and energy to every subject. Her growing acclaim in the contemporary art world is reflected in her recent series of major awards.
