For glass artist Kyle Kraiter, glass is a medium that crosses the boundaries of the senses—“a sound you can see, a color you can almost taste.” Long before he began working with hand-blown glass, he felt a deep, intuitive connection to the material, one that would lead him on a journey spanning continents and cultures. Kyle’s passion for glass has taken him around the world—from New Zealand, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Singapore to Australia—studying and working in studios, universities, and workshops before returning home to Portland, Oregon. His love of the craft is inseparable from his love of adventure; both have shaped his way of seeing and creating. The ocean and the human form are recurring influences in Kyle’s work, reflected in smooth, fluid lines and forms that honor the natural flow of molten glass. Each piece carries the imprint of his travels and experiences—a synthesis of technique, culture, and emotion. His art celebrates the meeting of simplicity and depth, material and movement, light and life.
