Laima Oržekauskienė-Ore is one of the most compelling textile artists in Lithuania, and a winner of the National Prize for Culture and Art. With her work, she has established her creative principle of combining the classical and avant-garde, which is now being used by many textile artists. She united her profession and intellect meaningfully, and in a way that she never for a minute forgot traditional textiles, wading deeply into the river of contemporary art. Oržekauskienė’s work primarily focuses on handwoven tapestries, where digital photographic images are transferred onto handmade fabric, capturing both the impermanence of the present moment and its timeless preservation. Her pieces are described as "textile haikus" or records of satori moments. She has held solo exhibitions in Lithuania, Denmark, Poland, India, Austria, and Japan. As one of the founders of the Kaunas Biennial of Textiles (1997), she has served as the chairperson of the Kaunas Biennial board since 2010. Having realized significant international projects such as North-Baltic-Textile (2007) and European Contemporary Tapestry and Textile Art (2007–2009), she has become an initiator of various contemporary art events, showcasing her work in textile, photography, and contemporary art exhibitions.
