Larry Welo is a plein air printmaker whose etchings are inspired by the local landscape. Because his work is done while observing his subject before him, the physical connection to his subject gives his work an authentic energy and life. Larry learned the fundamentals of printmaking in college and began working as an artist upon graduation, he has continued to do so for 35 years. Of his work he says, "Ideas are of great importance, and, as an artist, being able to communicate those ideas is of the greatest importance. This is something that I have attempted throughout my career. Looking is something that I was born with. Seeing, and communicating what is seen, is something that has been learned." Originally from northern Minnesota, Larry attended Luther College in Decorah and received a BA in art and biology. His work is in the collections of the New York Public Library; the Des Moines Art Center; McDonalds Corporation, Chicago, Illinois; Principal Financial Group and many more. Larry is represented by galleries in Arizona, Iowa, Minnesota, New York, and Gulden Kunstervk in Norway to name a few. He resides in Minnesota.
