With a joyful spirit and a brush in hand, Laura Pickering has rekindled her lifelong love for painting, finding inspiration in both nature and community. She connects with fellow artists several times a week, exploring new techniques and subjects from the comfort of her home. For Laura, painting is more than a pastime—it’s a peaceful escape and a way to share beauty and emotion, inviting viewers to experience her art with all their senses. Laura’s artistic roots trace back to childhood, where she began watercolor lessons with Adair Williams in Atlanta, Georgia. Her journey continued at the University of Georgia’s Lamar Dodd School of Art, where she discovered a love for geology that shaped her career in uranium mining and petroleum exploration. Later, her curiosity led her into the world of computer science and information technology, but her passion for art never faded. Today, Laura’s fascination with the natural world shines through in her mountain landscapes, coastal vistas, and vibrant florals. She delights in capturing the human spirit through portraiture and drawing, and her playful watercolors of birds and animals reflect her joyful approach to creativity. Laura’s wide-ranging interests and love of learning inspire her to experiment with diverse subjects, mediums, and styles. Though largely self-taught, Laura has recently honed her skills under the guidance of talented instructors in Oklahoma City, including Mike Wimmer, Bert Seabourn, Rick McClure, Connie Seabourn, Patricia Herrera Morgan, and Dorothy Norris Moses. She works in oil, acrylic, and watercolor, blending representational styles in her landscapes and florals with classical approaches in her portraits. Laura’s artistic journey began early—she sold her first pastel at age 10 and has participated in juried shows, exhibitions, and silent auctions since the late nineties. Her work has been featured in exclusive student shows and she welcomes commissions. Today, Laura continues to show and sell her art at Terra Rosa Art Gallery in Guthrie, OK, sharing her vision and creativity with the world. Discover more at LauraPickeringFineArt.com
