Born in Charlotte and raised in Asheville, North Carolina, Lauren developed a profound connection to nature through her experiences horseback riding. This passion ultimately inspired her to bridge visual art with the natural environment. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Florida State University, specializing in metal fabrication and abstract painting, where she developed a colorful, spontaneous, and unique style. In 1995, Lauren established herself in Atlanta as an independent artist and working from notable spaces such as The B Complex and The Goat Farm Arts Center. In 2019, Lauren and her husband began constructing "Talking Tree Farm" in the North Georgia foothills of the Appalachian Mountains—a self-sustainable farm and artistic space they moved to in 2020. This transition marked a significant shift in her artistic practice, moving from two-dimensional abstraction to contemporary fabric collage. As Lauren describes it, "Watching paint pigment seep into the earth led me to experiment with absorbing paint-pigmented water, discovering fabric as a medium. This 'Aha moment' birthed my contemporary fabric collection, rooted in my environmental passion." Today, her organic paintings utilize dyed fabrics and paper to reflect nature's forms and colors. Her distinctive multilayering technique results in sculptural paintings characterized by the colors of the nature around her, effectively conveying emotion and a strong sense of place.
