Formerly natives of Atlanta, my husband and I retired to our vacation home in rural northeast Alabama, into a planned community we helped to create. Our home sits on Sand Mountain, at an elevation overlooking the Tennessee River (Gorham’s Bluff). Until retirement, my time for painting was limited. Having always been a decorator and avid gardener, my natural inclination was to paint what I saw around me and loved – beautiful, natural color palettes and textures. Living in a beautiful natural setting has given me an abundance of subjects and a tranquil place to paint. And in addition to having lived in England growing up, as well as having traveled extensively as an adult, I have had exposure to places and styles of living that stimulate the senses! Since retirement has allowed me to indulge my love of art full time, I have had the opportunity to participate in several local (Alabama) art shows, as well as exhibit in our own Alabama Artist Showcase at the Lodge on Gorham’s Bluff. In addition, I was selected as one of the emerging artists for a show in Atlanta, at Ann Irwin Fine Arts Gallery. I have studied under a well-known artist, Cynthia Massey Parsons of Hunstville, and have enjoyed learning to work in oil, acrylics, and watercolor to a lesser extent. My medium of choice presently is oil and my style is reflective of the Impressionists, slightly abstract expressions of my subjects. If not painting gardens or landscapes en plein air, I find other casual vignettes or still lifes that suggest to me moments of reflection and relaxation. I hope you enjoy my work as much as I have enjoyed creating the pieces.
