For me, painting is both an act of creation and communication. My colorful, light-filled landscapes are designed not only to capture the beauty of the natural world, but to shape the mood of the spaces they inhabit. Each brushstroke, line, and mark carries intention, often working on a subconscious level to create harmony, vitality, or calm. After a full day of painting 24 colorful squares on a single canvas, I watched them lift off the wall, each one carrying its own sound and vibration that I felt in my body. It wasn’t imagined. It changed the way I paint. This experience relates to synesthesia, a neurological cross-sensory response where one sense triggers another, something quite different from simply having a sensitivity to color. Since then, when I paint outdoors, I use color to bring that experience inside, translating light, movement, and energy onto the canvas. Over three decades of painting and teaching have shown me that many artists focus on representation (color, composition, subject) without realizing that every mark and every color mixture is a form of emotional language. Whether intentional or not, these choices communicate energy to the viewer. In my own work, I approach each brushstroke with awareness, carefully curating marks and color relationships to uplift and inspire. My experiences with synesthesia (hearing color as sound) have deepened my understanding of how color communicates beyond what is seen. This perspective is also at the heart of my book, Cultivate Creativity in the Garden of Enlightenment, where readers explore how art connects to the subconscious through a fable that reconnects them to a sense of childlike innocence. Artists learn to recognize and refine their marks so their work reflects not only what they see, but the stories and emotions they wish to share. The result is art that is more intentional, resonant, and empowering for both creator and collector.Collectors often tell me that living with my paintings transforms their space in ways they hadn't expected. Beyond visual beauty, the work subtly shifts the atmosphere of a room, creating an environment that feels alive and aligned. My paintings have been recognized internationally, including Signature status with the Pastel Society of America, Best Landscape in Plein Air Magazine's Salon, and numerous other top awards. They are held in museums, hospitals, corporate spaces, and private collections worldwide, and even as part of the Museum on the Moon. Because in the end, art is not just something to look at. It is something to live with, a dialogue between brushstrokes, color, and soul.
