Lori Fonger is a self-taught artist based in Toronto, Ontario. After a long and successful career in the financial services sector, she made the decision to pursue art full-time.Spending time sitting on rocks by the water has always been a way for Fonger to relax, decompress, and recharge. Gazing out across the water—its vastness and stillness—offers a much-needed escape from the pace and pressure of everyday life. She strives to bring this same sense of peace and quiet reflection into her work. Her landscapes exist at the intersection of abstraction and realism. Inspired by the rugged beauty of the West Coast and the tranquil lakes of the Haliburton region, Fonger seeks to capture the feeling of serenity that comes from being immersed in nature. Her compositions are intentionally stripped down and simplified, using a restrained, monochromatic palette of muted blue-greys. Colour, form, and atmosphere work together to create a sense of calm.Viewed up close, the paintings reveal highly textured surfaces that catch and reflect light, adding depth and dimension. This distinctive, lace-like texture—developed over time—has become a defining element of her work, marking an evolution from earlier geometric abstraction to her current landscape-based practice.Fonger’s work is held in private collections across Canada, the United States, England, and Australia.
