Mara loves life, love, and everything about art. She’s inspired by the colors and beauty that she sees in the world around her and she works until, as she puts it, “the colors get along.” The richness and layering of her colors and textures often imbues her work with an Impressionistic quality. She uses charcoal, oil pastels, and digital programs to bring her compelling compositions to life. Her choice of subjects--people, animals, food, the environment--is driven by her concern for issues, people, and creatures that demand empathy and respect. Art gives Mara courage through her ability to express herself and make other people happy. As a self-taught artist, she feels proud of her hard work and overcoming the challenges art sometimes poses. Mara says she is full of joy when people buy her work because she loves to see her art go to good homes with good people.
