Marc grew up in a military family, spending much of his youth on the move. Born in Oxnard, California, he attended school there briefly before his family’s travels took him to Alaska, Florida, Arkansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Norway. After his father retired from the Air Force, the family settled in Loomis, a small community in northern California. Marc began college as a biology major but soon shifted his focus to art, enrolling at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, where he majored in illustration. After graduating, he worked as a staff illustrator in Sacramento before moving to Minnesota. There, he spent 33 years raising a family and pursuing his art. He now resides near Savannah, Georgia, on Tybee Island with his partner, fellow painter Dottie T. Leatherwood, and their two dogs. “I have pursued a career as a painter for many years now. Along the way, my methods, materials, and focus have evolved. A naturalist at heart, I find the landscape to be the perfect vehicle for expressing the joy I feel for the world around me. My real interest and challenge as a painter lies in manipulating the core principles of painting to create effective visual statements. I am most successful when I can convey that joy to those who view my work. Through my paintings, I aim to share my love for the landscape so that others might recognize its significance, notice the qualities they may have otherwise overlooked, and appreciate its essential value to us all.” Since the early 1980s, Marc has exhibited his work in galleries and museums both nationally and internationally. He is a multiple award-winning Master Signature Member of the Oil Painters of America (O.P.A.M.).
