Martha Groome is an American artist known for her abstract and minimalist rectangular compositions. Her paintings are known to have harmonious color pallets paired with a thematic tie of black and or white squares. Although simple at first glance, Groome intends for this,: "My painting is made to be simple easy direct, a sensation of presence with no instructions". Each plane of color is carefully measured and developed. Numerous key galleries and museums such as Barry Whistler Gallery have featured Martha Groome's work in the past. She graduated from University Of New Hampshire, Durham, NH; with a in BA Painting And Graphics and went on to further her education in a graduate program at Assumption College, graduating there in 1968. In MutualArt’s artist press archive, Martha Groome is featured in Galleries: They're all jolly good yellows, a piece from Philadelphia Inquirer in August 2015. Groome has exhibited in a notable amount of solo and group shows featuring her work since 1968. Some of the institutions that have shown her work include the Portland Museum of Art, The Ogunquit Museum of American Art, Icon Contemporary Art (ME), Center For Maine Contemporary Art, and in her later career showing at Lenore Gray Gallery (RI) and Larry Becker Contemporary Art (PA).
