Maya Eventov is an internationally exhibited contemporary artist whose work bridges rigorous classical training with a vibrant, modern palette and distinctive texture-driven technique. Born in 1964 in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) in the former Soviet Union, she was immersed in art from an early age, spending extensive time studying masterworks at the Hermitage Museum. Her early visual education included deep engagement with Post-Impressionist color and Russian avant-garde composition — influences that would remain integral throughout her career. Eventov received formal artistic training through the distinguished High School #190 affiliated with the St. Petersburg State Academy of Industrial and Applied Art, later earning a Master’s degree in graphic design from the Academy in 1987. Following graduation, she applied her creative skills to book illustration and participated in large-scale mural projects across major cultural centers, including Moscow, Leningrad, Erevan and Komsomolsk-na-Amure. In 1990, Eventov relocated to Canada, where a new cultural and geographic context expanded her aesthetic range. Inspired by Mediterranean light and color, her work evolved toward bold, expressive use of palette and texture. Eventov is particularly known for her richly textured acrylic paintings, often built through a palette-knife impasto technique. Her compositions convey an energetic interplay of color, depth and form that evokes both natural landscapes and emotionally resonant still lifes. Eventov’s art has been represented in galleries throughout North America, including Koyman Galleries in Ottawa and Vinings Gallery, and is held in private and corporate collections — notably including works collected by former Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chrétien and by institutions such as the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. Her work consistently reflects themes of joy, warmth and visual vitality rooted in her international experience and deep artistic lineage.
