Michelangelo, known completely as Michelangelo di Lodivico Buonarroti Simoni, was one of the most profound sculptors and painters this world has seen. His life spanned from 1475-1564, in which time Michelangelo unveiled such legendary works as the Pieta (1498-1499), the statue of David (1501-1504), the Sistine Chapel Ceiling (1508-1512), and many more. Michelangelo was part of the High Renaissance movement and created some of his most iconic works before he was 30 years old. He even worked in architecture, transforming the blueprint of St. Peter's Basilica into his own vision after succeeding the former architect. Throughout his lifetime Michelangelo was often referred to as "The Divine One". With contemporaries who admired his craft, and a general public he left in awe of his work. Michelangelo continues to inspire each preceding generation with his level of beauty and communication through the arts.
