A second-generation artist, Michelle Courier grew up inspired by her father’s advice to “make your own mark.” She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and launched her artistic career immediately after graduation. Early on, she gained recognition for her portraiture and Miami cityscapes, before turning to the landscapes that would define her signature style. Known as “the Lake Tahoe Painter,” Courier captures light, reflection, and atmosphere with a luminous blend of realism and impressionism. Born and raised in Michigan, she followed her creative calling westward, relocating to Denver, Colorado, in 2016 and opening Westward Gallery—a vibrant hub representing over thirty local artists. Her own work, including her acclaimed candy-colored aspens and whimsical gummy bear series, became highly sought after. In 2023, after seven successful years, Courier closed Westward Gallery to return full time to her studio practice. Her work, which bridges the expressive brushwork of Monet and Van Gogh with a contemporary sense of play and precision, is featured in collections and exhibitions across North America, Europe, and Asia.
