Noe Perez (b. 1958)Born in Falfurrias; resides in Corpus Christi Noe Perez is a contemporary artist living in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born and raised in Falfurrias, Texas. Interested in art from a young age, Perez’s artistic education began in his early teens as he studied with various local artists. Despite his love of art, he chose to major in engineering. Unwilling to put aside his intense interest in art, Perez has continued to advance his artistic abilities, attending plein air painting workshops with Plein-Air Painters of America artists Ron Rencher and George Strickland. Much of his work is done in the studio from photographs and plein air studies. Perez believes that plein air painting is an essential exercise for any landscape painter and he paints outdoors whenever possible. He paints the South Texas landscape—dusty terrain dotted with low brush and cactus in bright sunlight—using beautifully realistic colors that are equally muted and vibrant. Noe Perez is a master at capturing the beauty and essence of South Texas from Corpus Christi to the Rio Grande. Noe's subject emphasis is in the South Texas landscape where he grew up and still lives. Noe's work is influenced by the San Antonio school of early Texas Impressionism-Julian Onderdonk, Jose Arpa, Porfirio Salinas, Robert Wood, and Dawson Dawson-Watson. Noe graduated in 1979 from Texas A & I in Kingsville, TX with a BS in Civil Engineering and currently is a structural P.E. with a consulting firm in Corpus Christi. Noe is a member of SEAoT, Structural Engineer's Association of Texas. Though work and a family keep him pretty busy, Noe still finds time to produce original artwork in a home studio. "Most of my spare time is spent painting, planning new paintings, or reading about art. I enjoy many types of art, but Texas art is the closest to my heart." "I like to study the original works that inspire me whenever I have the opportunity. Some of my favorite artists include William Merritt Chase and Joaquin Sorolla as well as Texas painters Julian Onderdonk and Porfirio Salinas. Most of my work is done in the studio from photographs and plein air studies. I believe that plein air painting is an essential exercise for any landscape painter. I try to paint outdoors whenever I have the chance." Noe participated in the Night of Artists Art Show and Dinner for the benefit of the Briscoe Western Art Museum in 2006, 2007, and 2008. Noe's paintings have been accepted in the annual Salon International show hosted by Greenhouse Gallery in San Antonio, TX in 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011. Noe's artwork is included in the book Texas Traditions released in August 2010, and in Of Texas Rivers & Texas Art published in 2017. In Winter 2021, King Ranch: A Legacy in Art was published by Texas A&M University Press, featuring the paintings of Noe Perez, which he received a commission from King Ranch to create the painting commemorating the one-hundred-year anniversary of the historic Main House. Pairing original paintings by artist Noe Perez with insightful essays from curators Bruce Shackelford and Ron Tyler, this book celebrates the many ways “King Ranch culture” has enriched appreciation for the decorative, practical, and fine arts in Texas and the greater American West. A touring exhibition of the King Ranch paintings was held at the Witte Historical Museum in San Antonio, Texas, followed by the Ranching Heritage Museum at Texas Tech, Lubbock, TX, the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, and the Art Museum of South Texas in Corpus Christi. In 2022, his work was included in The Art of Texas State Parks: A Centennial Celebration, 1923-2023, by Texas A&M University Press. Named as one of the thirty-five “Centennial Artists” for the project, Perez captured Goose Island State Park, and Mustang Island State Park. The following year in Spring 2023, Perez was commissioned to create a large-scale 18' x 9' painting to be featured the new Ralston Family Collections Center at the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas. Perez’s artwork, which was created and assembled as three separate panels, cohesively and quite beautifully presents viewers with his interpretation of the early South Texas landscape. Within Perez’s landscape, appropriately titled A New Home, onlookers find a flowering cactus and a winding dirt path that eventually leads to a river located in the painting’s background. In addition to the skillful execution, these details quite convincingly create a scene full of potential and hope – a site that would eventually become the home of the Alamo.
