Paddy Japaljarri Stewart (c. 1935–2013) was a respected Warlpiri elder and artist from Mungapunju, south of Yuendumu in the Northern Territory. He taught painting, Dreaming stories, traditional dance, and bush skills at the Yuendumu School and served the community through the local council and Night Patrol. A founding member and Chair of Warlukurlangu Artists, he was known for his work on the Yuendumu Doors and his contribution to the 1989 Magiciens de la Terre exhibition in Paris. In 2001, he and Paddy Sims won the Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award for a series of etchings based on the Yuendumu Doors. His work remains a powerful legacy of cultural preservation.
