Patrick Soles echoes the colors and emotions we experience in the natural world. While most of the paintings of Patrick have been done later in life, his drawing and painting started early. His journey has been as varied and expansive as the landscapes that inspire his work. Life’s demands—higher education, military service, and career responsibilities—pulled him away from the canvas for many years. It was only after retirement that his artistic voice truly flourished. Initially working in watercolor, he soon discovered the richness and flexibility of oils, a medium that has since become his passion. For him, painting is less about commerce and more about expression. Patrick shares his vision through annual gallery and local shows, offering glimpses into the worlds he creates. A lifelong mountaineer, his art reflects a profound respect for nature’s majesty—the serenity of quiet forests, the exhilaration of high peaks, and the raw, awe-inspiring power of Mother Nature herself. His canvases often capture not only landscapes but also human figures, painted with the intent of evoking emotion. Each portrait invites the viewer to pause, to wonder, and to imagine the inner thoughts of the subject. His work is a celebration of both the external world and the inner life, blending adventure, tranquility, and mystery into images that resonate with those who encounter them. Barlow Gallery is proud to feature the work of Patrick Soles.
