Peter Sowiski was born in 1949 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He earned a BA in Studio Art from Oberlin College in 1971 and an MFA in Printmaking from The Ohio State University in 1974. He taught at SUNY Buffalo State University from 1974 to 2007 and is an Emeritus Professor of Fine Arts, having also received the President’s Award for Excellence in Service. Sowiski has exhibited extensively since the early 1970s, participating in over one hundred group and solo exhibitions. He has led numerous workshops and visiting artist lectures and has worked with Abaca Press since its founding in 1994. He continues to live and work in Buffalo, New York.
