Polly Osborne is an artist exploring the ironies in humanity’s relationship with nature. She was trained in art at the San Francisco Art Institute and received her Master’s Degree in Architecture from Southern California Institute of Architecture. Polly is well published as an architect, with numerous awards. She has been inducted into the American Institute of Architects College of Fellows, an honor given to less than 2% of US architects, is on the board of the Monterey Bay AIA chapter, and is a regent of the California Architectural Foundation. Polly sees making art is a personal adventure that can wake us up to action or put us to bed with a cozy feeling of familiar vision. Whether shocking or peaceful, it communicates the time and place of its creation. She looks for a twist that gives way to recognition of bigger issues within the ordinary. The best days are when the playful dimensions of daydreaming lead to an idea worth pursuing. In the “Alien Botanical” series, a fantasy plant appears in nature, is given scientific names, and sometimes bears resemblance to native species. It is both delicious and invasive. The presentation is a sculptural forest. This forest was first grown at the Alvarado Gallery in Monterey in 2012, and has been re-appearing ever since in various galleries in Los Angeles. Now they are happy to be repopulating in their original earthly habitat. Polly was born in Carmel Hospital and grew up on the Peninsula. Her grandfather was also a member of the Carmel Art Association.
