It is extremely difficult to define the artwork of R. John Ichter with a short description! With over 30 years dedicated to his craft, Mr. Ichter’s work has evolved dramatically, and he has mastered a wide variety of mediums…everything from his vibrant pastel-on-suede paintings to his stunning reverse-painted plexiglass creations. A common theme in all his work is a mastery of color, form and texture as well as a transformation of the way we see the world around us. Mr. Ichter’s bold pastels are hand-rubbed onto lushly textured black suede archival board. Vibrant, saturated colors and bold compositions contribute to the strength of these pieces. They entice the viewer with their soft, other-worldly feel. Developing his distinctive reverse-painting technique has taken the better part of thirty years for Bob Ichter. Each piece begins with a sheet of plexiglass which is layered on the back with dozens of washes and layers of acrylic paint to obtain the richly saturated glossy final piece. The result is sleek and modern, but conveys incredible depth, texture and movement. Mr. Ichter’s impressive group of collectors include the Federal Reserve Bank, Coca-Cola and the Ritz-Carlton, as well as individuals such as actor Tim Allen and country legend Kenny Rogers.
