Rachel E. Ligon, the founder of Key West Collective, was a spirited artist whose life and work left an indelible mark on the Key West community and beyond. A skilled photographer, her artistic vision blossomed as she traveled the globe, working to capture people and environments in their most natural state, or as she put it, to “photograph from the heart to highlight people at their most authentic.” She then moved to Key West with the intention of staying for a year, but fell in love with the island, eventually making it her home. She was known and loved all around Key West. Her knack for upselling as a waitress at local landmarks Blue Heaven and Santiago’s Bodega earned her the affectionate nickname "Big Money."When Rachel founded The Key West Collective, she wanted to establish a hub of creativity to showcase and celebrate the artists of Key West and their incredible work. Her gallery became a haven for local artists and a spot for learning and growing their creativity. Rachel's ability to capture the essence of a moment and her keen eye for detail set her apart, making her the perfect person to establish and run this beloved local gallery. Alongside her photography, Rachel crafted handmade soaps with Anna’s EsSCENTials, a company she co-owned with her mother, Denisa. Rachel Ligon was not just an artist; she was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend whose bright light and encouraging spirit enriched the lives of everyone around her.
