Though Rascal has Puerto Rican origins, he emerged as an artist in New York in the same era as Keith Haring and Basquiat through his bad boy reputation after getting in trouble one too many times for graffiti. At the request of a judge, Rascal turned to painting in earnest, incorporating his experiences as both a New York urban street artist and a Latin American man into his expressive pieces. Rascal applies a vivid color palette and quick, decisive brushstrokes in his paintings that bring a sense of energy and sophistication to the viewer. Rascal’s art has been exhibited across the U.S. and Puerto Rico, and he has lived and worked in New York and Hawaii. Most notably, Rascal designed the highly sought-after watch entitled “Moonchild” for the company Swatch Watch in 1997.
