Renee Levin, a contemporary oil painter, is best known for her highly rendered paintings and modern depictions of found objects and organic material. Born in New York City and raised in coastal New Jersey, Levin discovered a love for the sea at a young age. Aware of the sensory experience provided by this environment, her paintings act as a celebration of the visual beauty found along the shorelines. With a keen eye for detail, her large-scale paintings are created with a minimalist approach to color, allowing the focus to remain on the subject itself, creating a calming composition. In her pursuit of perfection, Levin skillfully balances beauty with imperfection, adding layers of depth to her art. Her paintings are an immersive invitation to experience the tranquil allure and timeless charm of her subjects, reflecting her profound connection to the sea and its inherent beauty. Since becoming a full-time artist in 2019, Levin has developed a signature style that has gained attention worldwide. Her work has been placed in numerous private and corporate collections and has received notable press features in magazines such as Vogue and Veranda. She has recently completed an Artist Residency at The White Elephant Hotel in Nantucket, MA, creating 21 pieces for the hotel’s property. Artist’s Statement: As part of my creative practice, I draw inspiration from the simplicity and beauty of my surrounding environment. My paintings, often depicting nature's gifts, shells or other found objects, unfold on a large scale, allowing me to explore the subject's nuances, patterns and textures. The scale and perspective of my work simply elevates and celebrates these objects, challenging viewers to do the same. My technique is meditative. I carefully curate my compositions resulting in dynamic use of negative space while dramatic use of light and shadow create depth and movement. Juxtapositions are common in my work — moments of softness are combined with graphic elements like dramatic shadows or crude imperfections. I believe the utmost beauty is attained when these tensions are present and a beautiful harmony is achieved, also reflective in my personal style.
