Renelio Marín is a Cuban-American visual artist whose work blends abstraction, figuration, and socio-political commentary. Trained at the prestigious San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts in Havana, Marín relocated to the United States in the late 1990s. He later earned a B.A. in Studio Art from Hunter College (CUNY) in 2009 and a Master’s in Media, Culture, and Communication from New York University in 2011. His academic and artistic background converge in a body of work that interrogates collective identity, propaganda, and emotional memory—often through the lens of displacement, exile, and the subconscious. Marín’s paintings are known for their vibrant, layered brushstrokes, saturated color fields, and recurring figurative motifs—most notably his “Blue Gorilla” series, which symbolically explores identity and dislocation in urban and cultural landscapes. His “Blue Jungle” paintings are densely populated with fragmented silhouettes, facial forms, and dripping textures, evoking both crowd psychology and political spectacle. While deeply informed by Cuban visual traditions, his work resonates globally with its philosophical and surreal undertones. Marín has exhibited widely in the United States and abroad, including solo and group shows in New York, Miami, and Latin America. His studio, Renelio Studio, is based in New York City, where he also operates the AMRM Gallery, showcasing emerging and mid-career artists. He participated in a 2022 bi-personal exhibition in New York and has been featured in cultural platforms such as Getty Images and CdeCuba Art Magazine.
