Kansas City-born illustrator, painter and part-time junk collector, Dick Daniels is a child of the 50’s who blossomed in the full glare of the psychedelic ‘60’s, influenced by the underground comix movement, abandoned amusement parks, American folk art, and cheap commercial packaging. Daniels worked as an illustrator at the Kansas City Star and as a humor card artist for Hallmark for 25 years. Daniels takes unique characters, graphics, symbols, and icons and intertwines them to produce works of fine art. His signature pop culture works are infused with 1930’s style posters, typography, and advertising, with original and sophisticated characters and graphics onto distressed surfaces. The resulting work possesses a nostalgic feel with a modern sensibility, with the goal of communicating the ironies and comical essence of pop-culture.
